Seoul's
Subway System
Seoul's
subway system is very functional, somewhat safe with issues they
need to resolve, usually busy, easy to find, usually clean, and
covers most of Seoul, Incheon and part of Gyeonggi Province. Some
cars are above ground, but in the case of downtown Seoul, the
cars are deep underground. It can be time-consuming compared to
an express bus, but it is faster than using a bus during rush
hour, plus it is better-labeled and easier to use than the bus.
Cost varies depending upon where you want to go but is usually
around 800 South Korean Won each way. (Less than $1.00 USD.) Recently
there have been some pollution concerns in the subways, but nothing
too serious. You can definitely do some walking in these subway
lines, but escalators and elevators are a frequent and welcome
relief.

Seoul's subways are marked in both Korean and English languages
on signs, maps, and on public address announcements. They are
clearly numbered, labeled, and color coded. It is easy to use.
Even someone who is inexperienced with subways can figure this
system out quickly. The subways meet with busses, taxis, and major
malls, office complexes and sporting facilities such as Seoul's
World Cup Soccer Stadium.
