Seoul, South Korea is no stranger to excellent high quality foods. All price ranges offer a wide variety of flavors to suit anyone. We've listed a few restaurants here as a free courtesy and these establishments have been selected at random.

AMERICAN RESTAURANTS If you simply cannot get by without some level of American food while in South Korea, you won't starve. In addition to KFC, Burger King, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, and The Outback, there are other American restaurant chains. Here are a few examples:

BENNIGANS 164-1 Hyehwa-dong Chongno-gu. This is about a 2 minute walk from exit 1 of Hyehwa Station on subway line number 4. 02-766-9800

COCO'S 738-26 Yoksam-dong Kangnam-gu. This is about 120 feet from exit 2 of Yoksam Station on subway line number 2. 02-565-6094

OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE 672-1 Tunch'on-dong Kangso-gu. This is about a 2 minute walk from exit 1 of Palsan Station on subway line number 5. 02-3661-1101 (If the telephone number looks funny, it's not. That's how they do telephone numbers in a lot of Asia. It is quite common. ) There are also other places like Sizzler, T.G.I. Fridays, Tony Romas, and others in Seoul and the surrounding metro area. If you need those addresses and telephone numbers, drop us a line, and we'll get that information out to you. Your hotel may also have them listed in a local guide, but don't count on it.

BRAZILIAN RESTAURANTS
IPANEMA 27-11, Chong-dong, Chung-gu. 10 minute walk, give or take a few from the City Hall Subway Station on either lines 1 or 2. 02-779-2756

CHINESE RESTAURANTS Chinese restaurants in Seoul are seemingly everywhere. We can tell you that we have lived, worked, and studied in China and we have eaten our share of high quality Chinese food while in China. Having said that, comparing Chinese food from China to Chinese food in Seoul, there is a substantial difference. One of the most noticeable differences is the prices. If you plan on eating at Chinese restaurants in Seoul be prepared to fork over some hefty cash at most establishments. As for quality, it depends on where you go. So... enjoy the search. Here are a few good places to check out.

HOKYUNGJEON 20th floor, Westin Chosun Hotel (Westin Hotel) 87, Sogong-dong, Chung-gu. About a 4 minute walk from Ulchiro 1-ga Station on subway line number 2. 02-317-0494

PAENGNIHYANG 57th Floor, KLI63 Bldg., 60 Youido-dong, Yongdungp'o-gu. This is located along the Han River in Seoul's tallest building. The exterior has a gold color to it. You can't miss it, and neither should your cab driver. Although on one occasion we did have a cab driver try and tell us that this was the US Embassy. Not exactly. Call this establishment: 02-789-5741 If you are taking the subway it is a 10 minute walk from the Youinaru Station on subway line number 5.

CANTONESE RESTAURANTS
LOTUS GARDEN 689-12 Yoksam-dong, Kangnam-gu. This is a 10 minute walk from exit number 5 of the Sollung Station on subway line number 2. 02-565-5700

FRENCH RESTAURANTS
LA PETITE MAISON 243 Tongson-dong, 3-ga, Songbuk-gu. A 10 minute walk from exit number 1 of the Sungshin Women's University Station on subway line number 4. 02-929-7863

PISHON 153-55 Itaewan-dong Yongsan-gu. This is about 300 feet from the entrance of the Grand Hyatt Hotel. The Grand Hyatt Hotel sits way up on top of a large mountain. It is an easy landmark to spot from several vantage points. Just down the street from the hotel you'll encounter the diplomatic residential area. 02-790-0179

LA SCALA 169-6, Samsong-dong, Kangnam-gu. 5 minute walk from exit number 8 of the Samsong Station on subway line number 2. 02-555-3851

GERMAN RESTAURANTS
MEMORIES 130-1 Itaewan-dong, Yongsan-gu. This is next to the Hamilton Hotel. Burger King is right across the street. 02-795-3544

INDIAN RESTAURANTS
TAJ MAHAL 2nd Floor, 132-2 Itaewan-dong, Yongsan-gu. Jump on a city bus numbers 23 or 81 from Seoul Station and get off at the Hamilton Hotel. This is about 250 feet from the Muslim Mosque and the Itaewan Fire House. The ride should take about 20 minutes even in moderate traffic.

JAPANESE RESTAURANTS
SONGJON 51-13, Ch'ungmuro 2 -ga, Chung-gu. A 4 minute walk from exit 5 of the Ch'ungmuro Station on subway line numbers 3 or 4. 02-564-2244

KUKSUSA 22-1, Tangju-dong, Chongno-gu. This is about a 6 minute walk heading to Sejong Center from Kwanghwamun Station on subway line number 5. 02-720-2701

ARIAKE 3rd Floot Hotel Shilla, 202, Changch'ung-dong 2-GA, Chung-gu. A 6 minute walk from Dongguk University Station on subway line number 3. 02-2230-3356
