What is Korean Culture?
Korea is separated into two distinct countries: North Korea and South Korea. Though they share the same traditional culture, save some regional differences, the two Koreas are very different in their modern ways. So, you can say that there are two Koreas, one North and one South. And each Korea has two different cultures, one traditional and one modern. Seoul Searching features South Korea.
Korea (both North and South) is located in East Asia, on a peninsula jutting out from mainland Asia. It is located between the two Asian superpowers: China to the west and Japan to the east. With curved-eaved architecture, beautiful people with almond-shaped eyes, martial arts, chopsticks and rice, Korea has all the makings of an East Asian country. However, Korea has taken its Asian setting and infused its own uniqueness. In some ways Korean culture is a pleasant blend between Japanese simplicity and Chinese ornateness. You can see this in Korean architecture and clothing. Other cultural traits, like kimchi, are uniquely Korean. |
